Korra book 1 to book 4.

I have mixed feelings about this every time I see it on my dash. I hated the ending of S3 with Korra’s single tear. The look on her face spoke entirely of dejection and defeat to me. Seeing it paired with this new shot of her in S4 does nothing to counteract these negative feelings I have. She looks broken down, stressed, and angry. She looks like she is fighting a battle within herself, and it looks like she’s losing. I know this is only one screenshot from one episode in the whole new season and that it hasn’t even come out yet and I’m not jumping to any conclusions, but she looks like her own fire and spark have left her and she’s continuing to go through the motions and keep up the momentum of her rolling stone simply because if she doesn’t, she’ll stop entirely. It reminds me of the end of S1 and I hate that.

Another GIF from the Korra season 3 finale.
More beautiful animation- I love how she twists as she takes off that rock pillars’ top.
There were some insane awesome shots in both episodes and great choreography for the action sequences.

This whole exterior action sequence between Korra and Zaheer is co-executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos’ storyboarding/fight choreography masterpiece, especially the 20-plus-second continuous flying shot. It was a herculean undertaking, and he had some help cleaning up a few of the scenes by Owen Sullivan (on this one) and Shaun O’Neil. If you didn’t already know it, Joaquim is a force of nature when it comes to action animation!

I am SO proud of this sequence! It was a TON of work for all involved but looking at this final product I think we can all agree that the juice was worth the squeeze. Remember this is “TV animation” folks….. So many stars aligned to make not only this sequence but this entire series possible. From the writing to the acting to the design to the boards through the final animation and last but not least the amazing sound fx and score! Not sure when we’ll get another one like it.

and now we hear from joaquim! i would love to witness a gathering of everyone that worked on the finale, and hear them discuss their own emotions through the process

Parallels | Plans before the final battle and Korra’s decision during them.

I love how even though it’s a parallel, this gifset shows how much character development Korra has gone through. In Book 1 she’s facing her enemy because she wants to fight and win; it’s an example of her fiery spirit. She’s facing Amon simply so she can prove her herself as the Avatar rather than confronting him in the name of peace for Republic City. By Book 3, Korra has grasped her role as keeper of balance, realizing that she has to sacrifice herself to maintain world safety. She’s humbly accepted the fact that in a few hours her life could come to an end solely based off of her love for the new Air Nation. This comparison is a huge testament to the character development which transforms Korra from a hot headed teenager to a brave and wise world figure.

Excellent commentary! I couldn’t have put it better myself! ^^
